History

Handling your chat History is a unique set of interdependent features in Secure Chat. Very few IM clients provide such flexibility regarding History management. It is easier to understand how the settings work together when you go through each one available.

Default History Mode

This is the history mode to be applied to all chats. In other words that whatever mode you select here, it will be used for each new chat session you establish. When you change the Default History configuration to another mode, the new one will be applied. There are three available modes:

History modes

  • Save History
Select this mode to store chat history until you delete it manually or until Time to Live expires (when TTL is applied).
  • Do not Save History
Select this mode never to store history.
  • For Your Eyes Only
FYEO allows you to set an expiration countdown for all messages. The time interval is configured in the For Your Eyes Only settings.

For Your Eyes Only

Here you set the time interval for the FYEO mode. When your chat buddy receives a message, a countdown starts. When the countdown reaches zero, it means that your selected time interval is up, and your message automatically deletes itself on both devices (you and your IM recipient).

Time to Live

This is another useful history configuration. It allows you to set the time interval your messages will be stored in History (i.e., will live on both devices). After that period expires, your messages will be deleted on both devices.

To set a TTL for your messages, tap at the bottom of the Time To Live panel and select any of the predefined values.

Click here to learn how to use FYEO and TTL.

Delete History

Tap Delete to see the options to manually erase the account chat history by time and type of data.

Clear History settings

  • Clear by date
Tap  to open a drop-down list with options to delete the chat history by date. To set your data ranges, chose Specific period, then enter start and end dates.
  • All History
When the toggle button is in ON position, all messages, media, and files get selected. Tap Clear to remove all, or Cancel to go back.
  • Delete some History
Tap any of the corresponding toggle buttons of the items as listed: Text messages, Voice Messages, Photos, Videos, and Files. You will only delete content which “originates” from Secure Chat.

Wipe

Wipe is a unique Secure chat feature that allows you to erase data securely and remotely. This can happen only after an authorized contact sends you the special wipe password as a message (the so-called wipe message). This functionality is particularly useful when your mobile device contains sensitive data and falls into the wrong hands.

WARNING

For Android users, the wipe message will erase only the app data (history and attachments). On Secure Phone, the wipe message will erase all the device data and reset the phone to its factory settings.

WARNING

If you switch off the “seen” status on your app, you cannot see if other people have read your messages too.
